More than just basicThe AmazonBasics TV Wall Mount is a well made product. Compared to some older and more expensive mounts, the metal is thicker and more sturdy. (I’m not giving a link because specifications that changed “without notice” made some products different from what I bought it in the past, and I don’t mean in a good way.) Although it’s true that even thinner wall plates should be more than capable of holding TVs of the rated size and weight, any flex to the metal can defy attempts to level things. The Amazon mount’s wall plate is made of steel with a mostly solid backing, and openings for mounting holes. One of the missing “features” of this product are cutouts in the plate for wall outlet plates, or other openings for in-wall cable connections. What this means is that Amazon did not remove steel and promote it as a feature, and you will still have plenty of room behind a TV to install an outlet above or below the backing plate.The distance between the leftmost and rightmost mounting holes is about 33 inches. Most wall studs are spaced 16 inches apart. Some competing mounts have wall plates that are only slightly wider than 16 inches, assuring that you can mount them between studs. But what if the center of where you want your TV is not exactly between two studs? With 33 inches, the plate will be in front of at least two 16 inch wall studs no matter where you position it.
